Cranial Osteopathy

Jack was a 3 week old baby who was constantly crying, unsettled and unable to feed or sleep well. He had had a difficult birth where he had become stuck and after 2 attempts with forceps eventually emerged with the use of a suction cap (ventouse). On palpating Jacks head it was obvious that this had caused his skull various ‘strains’ parts where compressed others pulled. This was having an impact on the vagus nerve a large nerve which passes all the way down the gut. With just 2 sessions these strains had released and Jack was feeding and sleeping much more normally. A few more sessions were given to ensure Jack was in the best shape to grow without problems over the next few years.

Daniel had been involved in a very bad road traffic accident, he had suffered injuries to his face, jaw, ribs and leg. He was susceptible to episodes of back pain and headaches as well as sinusitis. On feeling Daniels body it was apparent that there was much, torsion, compression and asymmetry throughout his whole body and in certain places in particular. Over the next few months we worked together to release these strains so that eventually he could breath more easily and could function normally without fear of his back going into spasm.

Rosemary was suffering from a feeling of tightness in her chest and some difficulty breathing. She had been going through a period of stress and felt that the tightness was to do with that. On feeling her chest area I could feel that it was indeed restricted and the whole of her body felt tense and unable to relax. Having regular cranial osteopathy sessions helped her to relax and sleep better and helped much of the tension to e

Osteopathy

Janet came to me with severe sciatica which she had had for two weeks. She had been prescribed anti-inflammatories from her GP but was still in considerable pain. I diagnosed a disc bulge pressing on the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve with associated inflammation and muscle spasm. The first treatment was to get the compression off the disc using an antigravity piece of equipment called an Inversion Table. This holds you firmly at the ankles and then you gently tip backwards until you are hanging in an inverted position usually around 45 to 75 degrees. I also gave Janet a homeopathic remedy for spasm. Janet responded well and was actually pain free until the following morning then the pain returned but was not as great as before. Over the following weeks Janet came in twice a week for Inversion and also I used the BEMER3000 - a pulsed electromagnetic device, as well as specific homeopathic remedies to assist healing. In just under 8 weeks on this treatment Janet was able to return to work and was pain free.

I feel that using the inversion table did help in my therapy, ultimately allowing me to return to work quicker than if I had just `rested' my back.  On using the inversion table for the first time it felt strange, but I soon got used to the sensation of tipping up to the varying degrees directed by Clare.  In fact, I actually began to look forward to going on it, knowing that each time it was used, the pain never seemed to return as bad as before.

Herbal Medicine

Elliot came to me initially for a lower back problem which I helped him with however, when that was gone he asked me to help him with a problem around the base of his ribs on the right hand side. It had been there for about 7 months and had initially started after a heavy weekend which included a fair amount of alcohol. I realised that the pain in his ribs was actually coming from his liver so I made him up a herbal tincture to take which had specific herbs to assist liver function. I also gave him some dietary advice including having a complete break from all alcohol for one month. When I saw him two weeks later he reported that the relief had been almost instantaneous with taking the first dose of tincture. He was almost symptom free. For good measure he had two more bottles of the tincture.

I have always been interested in alternative, holistic therapies but I have never pursued them before. This was an opportunity for me to really try and see if it worked. I had been to the doctors and hospital, had ultrasounds, x-rays, blood and urine tests, but the conclusion was that my pain was muscular. Not satisfied, I approached Clare. As is mentioned, the effects of taking the medicine was instantaneous. I have also taught myself how to look after my liver by eating the right foods and abstaining from alcohol for a period of time!

Naturopathic Nutrition

Jessica L was a busy manager suffering from repeated headaches, she came to me to see if osteopathy could help. When I checked her diet I realised the level of caffeine she took on a daily basis was likely to be a strong contributory factor in her headaches. Sure enough when she cut it out - the headaches stopped.

Margaret T suffered from asthma she had allergies to pollens and dust and had been under a period of stress. With this kind of condition we need to use many different treatment approaches but nutrition and detoxification is a very important first step. She also needed some specific homeopathic remedies, work to her spine and detoxification before the asthma cleared.

Arthritis can frequently be helped using nutritional approaches, John S had arthritis of the knees. It was not so severe that he needed a knee replacement and was amenable to treatment. He was willing to change his diet and take some nutritional supplements. We also did a weekly mini-detox. This made the other treatments for the arthritis much more effective.

Inter X Therapy

Beverley came to me the very day she had found a painful rash on her back and it had been diagnosed as shingles by her GP. She had pain in her back and around her right shoulder blade and reported that she had felt unwell and headachy earlier in the week. The day I saw Beverley was a Thursday and in two days time she had organised a massive fortieth birthday party for herself and did not want to miss it. (With shingles the usual progression after the rash comes out is to develop flu-like symptoms and be very unwell with fairly considerable pain in the area of the rash). I treated Beverley using the InterX (see InterX therapy) , I also gave her some homeopathic remedies and high dose vitamin C. I saw her again the next day (the day before she was due to host her party) the pain had eased and there was a little itching in the area of the rash. We did the same treatment and she continued on the remedies. When I saw her the following week I was keen to find out whether she had been able to make it to the party. Beverley reported that after the session she had felt totally exhausted and very weak. She had gone straight to bed and not got up to 3pm on Saturday. When she did get up she felt absolutely fine and went to the party and danced to 1am! She reported feeling some minimal discomfort and slight ache in the upper back on the day I saw her (Wednesday) so I gave her one last treatment – after which she reported all symptoms resolving.

This was amazing, I thought I would never make my party but thanks to Clare I was well enough to go and have a good time. People told me I would be in pain for a long time , I am still waiting for that pain to arrive !!

Louise came to see me complaining of exhaustion. She had suffered a period of stress for many months, although she reported that since the stress had finished several months ago her energy had not improved. She said that she felt she could fall asleep easily during the day at any time, and could not stay up past 9pm. She had a permanent headache, her eyes were sensitive to light and she described feeling like she was in a permanent fog. She was also concerned because she had lost a lot of weight and it was not going back on despite eating well.

I treated Louise using the InterX 5000. I used specific settings to help rebalance the spine and the adrenal glands (these are the glands that produce adrenalin and can get very weak after a prolonged period of stress). After one treatment Louise reported remarkable benefits, the headache and light sensitivity had completely gone and her pink eyes had become white again. She didn’t feel as tired. After 3 treatments Louise felt back to normal and we ended the treatments. Although she had not yet regained the weight Louise felt normal in herself and had plenty of energy to do everything she wanted to do and not have to go to bed by 9pm!

Having felt exhausted for so many months I had almost given up hope of feeling ‘normal’ again. Clare’s diagnosis was swift and accurate. After the first treatment I felt energised and after 3 further sessions my life was back on track mentally and physically. As well as the treatments, Clare has urged me to introduce a wider variety of fresh vegetables to my family’s diet and I am planning to grow my own to help facilitate this. My energy levels and inclination would certainly not have allowed this prior to my sessions with Clare.

Case History: Ben’s acute upper back and neck pain

Ben came to see me with a marked pain in his upper back and neck, it meant that he couldn’t turn his head to the left. However, the worst thing about it was that he couldn’t run, which was a major problem as he was intending to do a half marathon in 9 days time. Osteopathically Ben had strained a joint in his thoracic spine which was leading to a lot of associated muscle spasm. I treated him using the InterX5000 in particular settings for muscle spasm and gave him some homeopathic remedies to take. I saw Ben 3 days later where he reported that he was “miraculously better”. He now had some discomfort in the same place in his back and although he was able to turn his head a lot further he still got some discomfort at the end of the movement. I gave Ben another treatment with the InterX and felt confident he would be able to run the half marathon in 5 days time.

Ben’s comments:
This was the dreaded return of an old injury which had first occurred three years ago and at it's peak had me in bed unable to roll over or even turn my head for three days. My mobility was affected for about six months in total. So when it recurred, nine days before I was planning to run the Reading half Marathon and at a time when my physical fitness and health was better than it had been for years, I felt angry and upset. I knew from past experience that this kind of injury can get progressively worse, so I was determined to get early treatment and head off the worst of the effects if possible. Clare was able to see me the same day, and after an initial consultation treated the affected area with the mysterious InterX. This had the immediate effect of relaxing the muscles spasm and easing the tension in my back and neck. Although Clare warned me that the treatment might cause some short term discomfort, the only effect I was aware of was a huge improvement. I felt so much better that I went for a gentle work-out the following day. The follow up treatment two days later ironed out most of the remaining tension so that three days after the initial flare up I felt pretty much as good as new. I was able to stick to my training schedule that week, and completed the half marathon in a reasonable time. I didn't win of course; that really would have been a miracle!
Very very effective treatment, thanks Clare.
